Princess: Her Royal Meowness

It was in late 2013 when I saw a post of a former workmate advertising a pair of months old kittens for 5,000 pesos (roughly $115) each. Without any second thoughts I sent him a private message and I told him that I want a female kitten. We met and then when I saw her I became a believer of “love at first sight”.

The day I picked her up.

My friend thought that her breed is Persian with a doll face but I knew that she’s a Ragdoll. Not a really popular breed in the Philippines since most people thought that if a cat is long-haired it’s automatically a Persian.

Princess 1 2014 - 1I grew up in a household with more than five dogs and it was kind of unusual for me to love cats. Don’t get me wrong, I still love dogs and will always will but I’d like to consider myself as a cat person who loves dogs. πŸ™‚

According to Wikipedia:

The docile, calm and floppy nature of the Ragdoll is a characteristic thought to be passed down from the Persian and Birman breeds. Opinions vary as to whether this trait might be the result of genetic mutation. The extreme docility of some individuals has led to the myth that Ragdolls are pain-resistant. Some breeders in Britain have tried to breed away from the limpness due to concerns that extreme docility “might not be in the best interests of the cat”.

The aforementioned limpness can lead to situations where Ragdolls will sleep on top of each other, stacked up like magazines, as well as where they will merely still lie down even when pushed accidentally along the floor. Breed standards describe the Ragdoll as affectionate, intelligent, relaxed in temperament, gentle, and an easy to handle lap cat.The animals are often known as “puppy cats”, “dog-like cats”, “cat-dogs” et cetera due to their placid nature and affectionate behavior, with the cats often following owners from room to room as well as seeking physical affection akin to certain dog breeds.

My Princess is affectionate, intelligent, relaxed in temperament, gentle but she’s not an easy to handle lap cat. She hates being petted on a lap.

  • Outdoors
  • Climbing on a tree
  • Warm milk – it’s a common knowledge but hardcore cat owners know that most cats are lactose intolerant.
  • Dogs
  • Watching TV
  • Sleeping ANYWHERE – she burnt the tip of her tail once when she jumped on our stove for her nap. Her fave spot is the bathroom.
  • Bread
  • Hair blower – she’s indifferent on taking a bath but she loves being blow dried.
  • Chasing insects and lizards
  • Kneading

IMG_20150318_194042On June 1st this year, I called in sick from work because it was the day she gave birth to four cute little kittens. I prepared a box for them under my bed because I’d like to imprint on them. Hahaha!

C360_2015-07-05-10-54-31-761She was a great mother. Protective and caring and nurturing but she became a VERY picky eater. I tried canned cat food, dried food for kitten because according to a friend it’s more enriched in protein than the adult dried cat food. I also tried to make my own recipe for her – ground chicken breast, liver and eggs, she didn’t like it. I even tried raw diet for her but she was really picky that she lost a lot of weight.

After almost three months after she gave birth, her appetite came back and eventually she gained her ideal weight back and became her old sweet self again. πŸ™‚
